Arnold Cardona started Cardona Landscape, a landscaping company that services Danville, Walnut Creek, and surrounding East Bay cities 2 years ago. For the last 5 years though, he had been working with his father. Arnold originally started working with his father because he wanted to help grow the father's family business that had provided for the Cardona household since he was a kid. Furthermore, Arnold strives to help his father grow the family business so they can both live comfortably. Cardona Landscape is all about quality and either Arnold or his father are at every job site making sure that the work gets done right. Also, they want to make sure that every client trusts them and feels comfortable while Arnold and his team are working on their yards.

Mandarin Garden is a family run Chinese restaurant that has been serving authentic Chinese food in the Concord area for 30+ years. Chef Ruey (Ray) Wang has single-handedly cooked every dish over that period of time, following the same recipes he learned growing up in China from his father and perfecting it over the years. He prides himself in hand-selecting the majority of the produce, protein, and ingredients used in his dishes every Saturday morning.
While Ruey does all the prep and cooking in the kitchen, his wife, Shirley, handles everything in the front of the house. Taking orders, serving food, receiving phone calls, and cleaning tables. It’s amazing how 1 couple with minimal staff are able to handle an entire restaurant.
As for the food, whether you prefer westernized Chinese food like Orange Chicken or Mongolian Beef, or something traditional like a black bean sauce with hand-pulled noodles (jajangmyeun), or my personal favorite the fried chicken wings (Mandarin Chicken), you can always expect high quality and fresh dishes. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, the restaurant has been staying busy thanks to their loyal customers continuing to come by for take out orders. Next time you are passing through Concord near Monument Blvd, stop by Mandarin Garden to pick up some lunch or dinner!

Hi-Definition Barbershop was started by young entrepreneur, Max Lober. His mother was a salon owner in Berlin, Germany and always told herself that one day she would open up a salon in California. That day became a reality when she opened Hi-Definition Salon. In the summer of 2015 when Leela, Max's mother, decided she was going to step back from the shop she offered it to Max to take over. From there, Max took over Hi-Definition Salon and had his own barber chair in the corner of the salon. A couple years later, Max decided to open up his own location with a new name, Hi-Definition Barbershop which was geared towards men's cuts, fades, and beard trims. He opened up his shop in Walnut Creek just a couple blocks away from the salon. At this location, he took on a business partner, Kevin Arredondo, who is the co-owner and runs this location. As Max and Kevin added more barbers to their shop, Max decided to open another Hi-Definition Barbershop at the same location as the salon but just next door. Max and Kevin both co-own the barbershops and manage their respective shops. They continue to add great barbers to their shop and have excellent reviews on Yelp, Google, Facebook, and Vagaro, salon reservation platform. If you are near Walnut Creek and you are looking for a barbershop, check them out. They offer the cleanest cuts and fades in Walnut Creek!
La Fogata Mexican Bar & Grill was started by Javier Leon, an immigrant from Mexico and his wife Vivian. He started La Fogata in 1980 when he realized that Walnut Creek did not have any Mexican restaurants to eat. Originally, La Fogata was Arthur's Deli, which Javier purchased from Arthur. For a few years, Javier continued to run Arthur's Deli before he made the transition over to the Mexican restaurant, La Fogata. What many people do not know and still do not know today is that the recipes from La Fogata were not his. The recipes he started with were from a man named Raul, who owned El Chichen in Oakland, CA where Javier regularly visited. Over the years, the recipes have changed and they've tried new ones but the original ones were from Raul of El Chichen. La Fogata still has the same two day cooks that have prepared the meats, sauces, and other foods since the 1990s, Chal and Teresa. If you've gone into La Fogata during the day before then you would surely know their faces. La Fogata is still owned and operated by the Leon family but is currently closed due to COVID-19. La Fogata is known for their chips and salsa that is served with every meal. If I were in Walnut Creek, I would definitely visit La Fogata to grab a margarita, eat some chips and salsa and throw down some tacos!
La Fogata Mexican Bar & Grill is located on the corner of Mt. Diablo and N. Main St. next to Rooftop WC and Vineyard Vines in Downtown Walnut Creek.
